Fortnite’s Chapter 2, Season 2 has been going on for a little while, but it’s ending soon. After the v12.60 update, leaks about the season-ending event are starting to come into place, putting us squarely into the homestretch as we make our way to Chapter 2, Season 3. The weekly and overtime challenges are done, and all that’s left is the grand finale, which leaks now indicate will be centered at the Agency, where things have been gurgling up for a bit now. The event will likely happen the Saturday before the season ends, though that’s unconfirmed for the time being.

Chapter 2, Season 2, was originally scheduled to end on April 30. It will now end on June 4, and Chapter 2, Season 3, will begin immediately after.

I’ve been looking forward to the event for a bit, because the map has been pretty active all season long, with spy bases turning over from GHOST to Shadow, Deadpool’s arrival and a shadow war between Gnomes and Bears skulking around down there in Weeping Woods. But the Agency, there at the center of the map, is definitely the locus of whatever is going to serve as the climax. If you look at the picture below, you can see the little objects in the water that first started appearing mid-season, and would seem to have something to do with whatever is coming.

Because this is a secret agent-themed season, it’s only appropriate that we would get a world-ending plot going. At least that’s what we’re assuming is going on at the moment: Midas has a big ball outside the window of his office, and people have taken to v buck generator calling it a doomsday device—it’s also spawned cables that are now snaking throughout the rest of the battle pass menu. Leaks have indicated that the big ball back there is going to disappear from Midas’ office and possibly make its way back onto the map. There’s also an indication of a big showdown between our two rival factions:

One of Epic’s favorite things to do in season-ending events is to blow stuff up, and a Doomsday Device is a pretty good candidate for doing just that. What I’d really love to see, however, is some way to tie the ongoing Ghost/Shadow conflict in with the v bucks generator device: if there were some sort of operation that had one team defending the device and the other one trying to activate it, with the event playing out differently based on who won.

It would be a ton of work, because the developers would almost certainly have to do some work on a version of an event that would have to be scrapped. I’m not saying this is the most likely thing in the world, but it’s always fun to imagine in these situations. More likely would be the idea that the event will somehow involve Shadow overthrowing Ghost, because they’ve been on the rise for the entire season.
